My Mobile coverage is poor
What is mobile coverage?
Mobile coverage refers to the availability and strength of a mobile network signal in a specific location. It determines whether you can make calls, send texts, or use mobile data services like browsing the internet or streaming content.
Coverage depends on several factors:
- Location: Urban areas typically have stronger coverage due to more cell towers.
- Terrain and buildings: Hills, valleys, and dense structures can block or weaken signals.
- Network type: 2G, 3G, 4G (LTE), and 5G offer different speeds and capabilities.
Why Coverage Might Be Poor
- Location & Terrain: Hills, buildings, and rural areas can block signals.
- Device or SIM Issues: Faulty SIMs or incorrect network settings can affect reception.
- Network Differences: Slingshot uses 2degrees towers. If someone on 2degrees has signal and you don’t, your phone may be the issue. One NZ and Spark use different towers, so coverage varies by provider.
- Infrastructure Gaps: Some areas simply lack strong tower coverage or are affected by outages.
Quick Fixes
- Restart Your Phone: Forces it to reconnect to the network.
- Check SIM & Settings: Reinsert SIM, ensure network is set to “Automatic”, and consider locking to 4G if 3G/2G is weak.
- Try Another Device or SIM: Helps isolate the issue.
