Setting up your Netcomm NF18

Setting up your modem correctly ensures a stable and secure internet connection. This guide walks you through connecting your modem, configuring settings, and getting online quickly.
What You’ll Need
- Your Netcomm NF18AC or NF18MESH modem
- Power adapter
- Ethernet cable
- DSL or Fibre connection (depending on your setup)
- Slingshot broadband account details (if required)
Step 1: Connect Your Modem
- Plug the power adapter into the modem and a wall socket.
- For each service type:
- For ADSL/VDSL, connect the DSL cable from the modem’s DSL port to your phone jack.

- For Fibre, connect the WAN port to the Fibre ONT using an Ethernet cable.

- Use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer to one of the LAN ports (optional for wired setup).
- Turn on the modem using the power button.
Step 2: Access the Modem Interface
- Open a web browser on a connected device.
- Enter 192.168.20.1 in the address bar.
- Log in using:
- Username: admin
- Password: admin (unless changed)
Step 3: Configure Internet Settings
- For ADSL/VDSL:
- Go to Basic Setup > WAN Settings.
- Select PPP over ATM (PPPoA) or PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE) depending on your connection.
- Enter your Slingshot username and password.
- Save and apply settings.
- For Fibre:
- Go to Basic Setup > WAN Settings.
- Select DHCP as the connection type.
- Save and apply settings.
Step 4: Connect to Wi-Fi
- The default Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password are printed on the modem’s label.
- You can change these by going to Wireless Settings in the modem interface.
Step 5: Test Your Connection
- Open a browser and try visiting a website.
- If it loads, your setup is complete.
- If not, restart the modem and check your settings.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Ensure cables are securely connected.
- Double-check your login credentials.
- Restart the modem if changes don’t take effect.
