How do I change my email client from POP3 to IMAP?

This page will help you with changing the email client from POP3 to IMAP.


 

 

Microsoft Outlook 2010/2013

  1. Start Outlook.
  2. On the Filemenu, click Info and click Account Settings.
  3. Select Account Settings from the list.
  4. On the E-mail tab, click New and Select Email Account, and then click Next

  5. Click to select the Manually configure server settings or additional server typescheck box, and then click Next.
  6. Click Internet E-Mail, and then click Next.
  7. In the Server Information section, select IMAP for Account Type.

  8. In the Your Namebox, enter your name exactly as you want it to appear to recipients.
  9. In the E-mail Addressbox, type your e-mail address.
  10. In the User Namebox, type your account name.
  11. In the Passwordbox, type your password.
  12. In the Incoming mail serverbox, type the name of your IMAP4 server.
  13. In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP)box, type the name of your SMTP server.
  14. Note: IMAP4 is a retrieval protocol. You must have SMTP to send your messages.
  15. Click Next after you have completed entering this configuration information, and then click Finish.

 


Mac Mail

  1. Protect messages that you’ve already downloaded
  2. Open Mac Mail
  3. Select Mailbox > New Mailbox
  4. Set Location to “On My Mac” and call it something like “My Old Inbox”
  5. Move any messages from your old POP3 email account into this new folder to ensure you don’t lose them
  6. Set up your new IMAP account
  7. In Mac Mail choose Preferences > Accounts
  8. Select the name of your POP account and then select Advanced
  9. Uncheck “Enable this account”
  10. Select Choose File > Add Account
  11. Select IMAP as Account Type
  12. Enter imap.orcon.net.nz into the Incoming Mail Server field
  13. Enter your Orcon email username and password
  14. Select Continue
  15. If you have entered the correct information, your new IMAP account should work right away
