How do I separate the 2.4ghz and 5ghz WiFi on my Orcon NF18 modem?
This guide will help you separate the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz WiFi bands on your Orcon NF18 modem.
Separating the 2 bands is a good option if you want to guarantee that your devices always connect to the desired band.
Helpful tips before we start
- Connect the yellow Ethernet cable from one of the free LAN ports on your modem to the Ethernet plug on your computer as shown below.
- Once the bands are separated you will need to manually connect/switch to each band on all your devices
- To separate the wireless networks we also need to have a unique Wireless name for each band so you, and your devices, can easily Identify which band to connect to (we would suggest something simple like the same name but with a 2.4 and 5 at the end). E.g. "Orcon-Wireless 2.4", and "Orcon-Wireless 5"
What is the difference between 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands?
The main differences between the two wireless frequencies are, Speed (Bandwidth) and Range.
2.4ghz - can give you a greater range to connect devices but may perform at a lower speed than the 5ghz - can give your devices higher speeds but will not reach ass far as the 2.4ghz
